lesson 1 - high fashion, street fashion & ap
What is High Fashion?
The term "high fashion" is typically used as a way of describing fashions that are trend-setting, unique, and exclusive. The term "haute couture" is French. Haute means "high" or "elegant." Couture literally means "sewing," but has come to indicate the business of designing, creating, and selling custom-made, high fashion clothes. While mass market clothing is, er, mass-produced and easily accessed (and typically made with cheaper materials), high fashion products are defined in part by their quality materials and high cost. So in other words, when you see five people at the mall wearing the same taupe pea coat as you (isn’t that the worst?), it was probably made very quickly in a factory, and thus, doesn’t fall under the high fashion umbrella. On the other hand, if you get a custom wedding dress made by Vera Wang, or fill your closet with vintage finds, or spend (too much) money at small, one-of-a-kind boutiques, those things would generally be considered high fashion.
The phrase "high fashion" refers to the most luxurious, elegant and expensive clothing and accessories from top fashion designers. This American term comes from a common French expression, "haute couture," which has the same meaning. High-fashion clothing is typically custom-made clothing.
Clothing that is considered high fashion is made by well-known designers. Often, the designers name is connected to the clothing labels and contributes to its value. High-fashion items are commonly sold through boutiques and specialty shops as opposed to large discount or department stores. However, discount chain Target has managed to create agreements with prominent high-fashion designers to develop exclusive, affordable lines for the store.
So when thinking about high fashion, think about hand made, time consuming, detailed, quality clothing made with very expensive material.
So how to do High Fashion on IMVU?
When thinking of HF, think of in real life celebrities & models and how they dress at award ceremonies & galas, luxury, modern, extra & detailed clothing. Of course, now that we are dealing with a virtual shop, we must adapt and find some good shopping techniques to find exclusive & unique high fashion looking items. For an exemple; on imvu, high fashion is not expensive clothing so we're not going to focus on that. You can find good looking high fashion clothing on imvu that are cheap and unique. What matters in order to make high fashion on imvu are:
1. Who you are shopping from , so the creator
Some creators are well known, but make very common clothing that everyone will buy because it is so popular and will end up on the first pages of the shop. So basically if u look like everyone else just because you bought something trendy that are on the first pages of the imvu shop, you are not doing high fashion. However, if you investigate in creators more, you can discover what type of other clothing they make. We're not saying to not shop from popular, trendy creators. But instead, look for the most unique and uncommon things they have.
wich leads us to....
2. Unique/creativity
Being unique and creative are some of stridel's main qualities. On imvu, there is a lot of underrated creators that are not popular but very good. So non popular creators will not only make you look unique because they have unique high fashion clothing, but also because they are not popular so if you find something that's has good quality and is uncommon, you don't have to worry about someone else finding the same items and clothing easily. 3. Quality
Quality always shop quality! A Stridel model must always look their best and reflect their agency's qualities and values. By quality we mean clothes that are detailed, that have depth, that have great texture and are not too plain and that looks as realistic as possible. Stridel really encourages unique appearences, and style!
To summarize, the most important things to consider when shopping 1. creators - famous or not, what we want is unique and quality. 2. unique, rare and fashionable, not trendy and common and 3. quality vs non quality for an exemple : u can find two scarfs that are the same but from two different creators; one can make it look plain and dull while one can make it look like it has more quality!

So what is Street Fashion?
Street fashion can be a form of high fashion. However on IMVU to keep things simple, we will seperate Street fashion from High Fashion. When thinking about street fashion, think of outrageous, combat, tech wear, rebellious, cool, edgy, punkish, daring, artistic and unique. Street Fashion can also have a cultural aspect to it, for example harajuku fashion in Japan. There is not one way to do street wear. The most important part is that you be unique and add your own individuality to your style! Think of freedom of expression without any limits!
AP looks (Acess Pass, which is the explicit part of IMVU)
Access Pass (AP) is a feature available to adults who are age 18 and older. It’s the explicit/adult side of IMVU. In Stridel, we ocasionally have explicit photoshoots which means AP models will sometimes have to make AP looks. In Stridel, making an AP (or explicit) look does not always mean an over the top sexy/pornographic look even though that is sometimes acceptable for an Ap photoshoot if that's the theme we are going for. However Ap can also be classy or subtle, for example a classy dress that is see through. Ap can also be sexy swimwear, lingerie or casual clothes but with a lot of cleavage or an AP top or bottoms that provides little coverage.
